Spike

Just when I think the cut is coming together I realize that one of my actors was looking directly into the camera in the take that I want to use. After Effects, you will save a shot once again. In editing The Great Heist I found a shot where an actor looked directly into the camera for a full second during the middle of a take. I was able to use After Effects to superimpose his eyes from a previous section of the take over the spot where he spiked the camera. Now I have to use that skill again for this AT&T commercial for the mofilm.com contest.

AT&T commercial for a contest

It was a good day. Today we shot an AT&T commercial for a mofilm.com contest. What a blast it was. It was a pleasure to work with two of our favorite actors: Lija Fisher and Mike Mergo. Plus the amazing makeup artist Mia Bauman, costumer Jen Lerned and our host/boom operator/assistant costumer/and all around swell guy Brett McClelland. Thanks to everyone who helped make this a reality.

Hackintosh

I've been foaming at the mouth for days about a guide on nofilmschool.com for building a high end Hackintosh.  Every couple of hours I find myself back at Amazon.com looking at the individual parts and pondering if I can justify the expense. HD video rendering time would be hacked into tiny pieces. At this point I feel like I need to name it Precious and start squatting, slurring, and talking to myself. Just look at the specs:

3.06GHz Core i7 950 processor / 12GB RAM / Nvidia GeForce GTX 285

That's four processing cores with HyperThreading so it shows up as 8 processors to the OS! (although HyperThreading isn't really like having four extra processors) And Premiere Pro and After Effects would have a blast playing in a 12GB memory pool. They could even have a little game of splashy splashy.

Rough cut complete!

(trumpet introduction) The rough cut of the film is finished! At long last, and with the help of time off from work, the assembly of I Hear You was seen from beginning to end for the first time on January 1. Now, on to the tweaking! And more importantly, on to the sound design which will be key to the film.
